The El Niñ o weather pattern developing in the Pacific Ocean could eventually rank among the strongest on record, forecasters with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said on 13 August.
A strong El Niñ o &mdash signalled by the periodic warming of ocean-surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific &mdash can lead to heavy rain in parts of North America and drier-than-normal conditions in Australia, Indonesia and parts of India. NOAA says that there is an 85% chance that the current El Niñ o will last through the first few months of next year, with its strength peaking in November or December.
The current El Nino, nicknamed Bruce Lee after the late action hero, is already the second strongest on record for this time of year and could be one of the most potent weather changers of the past 65 years, meteorologists say.
We' re predicting that this El Nino could be among the strongest El Ninos on record, dating back to 1950, " Mike Halpert, deputy director of the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration' s Climate Prediction Center, said.

Wilmar Intl was upgraded by Zacks from a &ldquo hold&rdquo rating to a &ldquo buy&rdquo rating in a report released on Wednesday.

The Company captures the entire value chain of the agricultural commodity processing business, from origination and processing to the branding, merchandising and distribution of a wide range of agricultural products. Its business activities include oil palm cultivation, oilseeds crushing, edible oils refining, consumer pack edible oils processing and merchandising, specialty fats, oleochemicals and biodiesel manufacturing, and grains processing and merchandising. The trading company accumulated almost 5 million shares, or 0.08 per cent of its shares outstanding, for S$15.2 million, according to filings with the Singapore stock exchange. The buyback was Wilmar' s first since October 2014
