Just now when I was having my dinner, I heard a couple arguing with each other. Being a kaypoh uncle, I put my ear nearer to listen to what they argue about. The girl said to the guy that she short of rmb50k to open a shop n asked the guy to lend it to her. From the conversation, I think the guy is her boyfriend.

The guy said, I saved the money for very long, what if your business fail, there goes all my money. The girl replied angrily n said me more important or money more important? You love me more or money more. I wanted to listen more but they discovered I eardrop n scolded me so I paiseh n dare not listen anymore.
Personally I think this is the problem for Asian, can' t distinguish between love n respect. I love u doesn' t mean I have to accede to your request n u must also respect my decision bcos anything related to money must b dealt sensibly n not emotionally.
Just like the previous prc girl who I knew asked me to buy branded cosmetic from hk for her, on the spot I rejected her n said I can give u tips to buy stock n if u make money u can then buy the cosmetic yourself, thereafter she never contact me anymore. Of cos I' m certainly a miser, however it is also a blessing that I knew one less insincere ppl like her 🙂
Hence, I think western way of dating is the best, very clear cut. Before marriage sign a contract n spell out everything clearly just in case thereafter divorce. But I don' t encourage anyone to think like me otherwise u will b like me, nobody want 🙂

Can still go there for the cheap food, grocery and toiletries. Almost half-price.

Good sharing on accounting entries which may give misleading interpretation on a company' s performance. We need to be careful to not just take media/ press releases of a company' s results as the absolute and even more so a company' s quarter result as the only measure of a company' s investment worthiness. If one bother to dig deeper into the financial statements of a company, one may see a very different interpretation of the performance of a company. I noticed so far almost all companies will emphasise good aspects about their quarter or yearly results. If there are any negative aspects about them, they usually will not mention in the media/ press releases or try to reduce the impact of the negative aspect if they should mention it by giving some form of excuse. Rarely will a company emphasise or dwell on any mistakes or bad aspects of their performance and provide reflections on how they can improve their business operations the next time.

So, as an investor, if we notice any exceptional/ exaggerated performance of a company, we must be careful and dig deeper into the financial statements and other avaliable sources about the company to find out why the reported revenue, earnings, cashflows have either increased by significant amount or decreased by significant amount this year compared to previous year. Always remember that media/ press releases like to emphasise the good things and rarely emphasise bad things about a company' s performance.

Also, accounting entries do give misleading interpretation of a company' s performance and only by digging deeper and making the relevant adjustments as Willisow puts it can we find out the true performance of a company and any hidden skeletons in the wardrobe about a company (negative aspects) that are not reported in the media/ press releases.

Hi guys,

Another real life example of investors being misled by net profit performance. genting clocked a stellar Q3 net profit performance primarily due to a derivative loss registered in Q3 2015, which was a one off expense n should be taken out for adjustment.

This is similar to someone who sold its share at loss last year n resulted a lower net income. This year he didn' t sold any share n thus when compared to last year, his income rocket tremendously. In fact, his income did not grow at all. Hence, we can see how majority public are being misleaded by accounting entries n lead to volatilities in share price.

Nevertheless, my very big congrat to those who profitted at sgd0.82 n u guys can buy many delicious drumsticks to celebrate. Thank you 🙂

Subject: Genting Singapore Valuation

announced its Q3 and 9 months financial results. Both Q3 and 9 months operating earnings fell 28% and 30% on a year on year basis, pretty disappointed, sigh. On a trend basis, Q1 operating earnings fell 13%, Q2 operating earning fell 46%, Q3 offered some improvement but it is still too early to indicate any recovery yet. My own assessment of its fair value based on current earnings is revised down from SGD0.83 to SGD0.82 and ideal entry price at SGD0.75 or below.

As mentioned previously, my own position was taken in Q1 at SGD0.73 and i will only liquidate based on my own projected long term value at SGD1.03 and this is not inclusive of potential value to be derived from its Jeju joint venture. However, those who wish to sell at its current estimated fair value are free to exercise their own judgement. Below are analysts reference as second opinion. Thank you 🙂
