then why did SBS react to the upside to the news?

So if based on 5% EBIT margin as a guideline on revenue of $1.3bil, SMRT EBIT will be about $65mil per year. Their note interest is about $12.5mil so after deducting interest and tax, the NP is about $44mil. If they payout 100%, then div will be abour 3cts. At current price of $1.55, that' s about 2% yield which is half of what they used to paid.If fund seeks better yield, they will pull out of SMRT and go somewhere else.
Also since under the NRFF, the lease is 15 years rather than 30 years, will PE adjust to reflect this?
I don' t see any upside for SMRT more flat or downside.

the previous CEO said sustainable as she cut on maintance. The current CEO said not sutainable as now they have pressured to improve on their maintance.

The board has to answer this, if the current model is not sustainable, then why in the past it gave out huge dividend to shareholders.

Average EBIT drop from 15% to 5%., I wonder how will SMRT mitigate the big fall to sustain the dividend payout.
Smrt has other business too. Cab, bus, retail, advertising etc.

No point speculating sbout the impact. Let' s wait for the notice of EGM. The booklet will need to show shareholders about the assets to be sold and the impact too.

Actually, viewing from another angle, they' ve just happily shifted the cost of funding to the govt. By retiring nearly 1 bil of debt, imagine the annual interest costs saved .... around 50 mil a year, say, at around 5%+-? How will the savings be appropriately deployed?

There should be better profits after being asset light. This is a money making business where ppl uses more public transport nowadays.
We should see further upsides on the stock value..
my opinion, this should be good for SMRT. This will give them enough cash to bid for the thompson-east coast line. Which based on my estimate should be tendered out end of this year or next year.
